20 events celebrating a four-handed musical journey
Twenty years marked by twenty events that honour the artistic collaborations which shaped Tchiki duo: from the earliest recitals in Lausanne to the great concert halls of Europe, and encounters with some of the instrument's greatest names, first among them Keiko Abe and Nebojsa Zivkovic. This twentieth anniversary celebrates Tchiki duo's journey, enriches it, and opens the way to ten more years of artistic exploration.
Jacques Hostettler
Born in Vevey in 1974 into a family of musicians, Jacques Hostettler studied percussion at the Lausanne Conservatory under Stéphane Borel, as well as vibraphone at the Jazz and Contemporary Music School under Philippe Cornaz. He completed his percussion studies in 1997, then gave a recital at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival as a laureate of the Swiss Musicians' Association. Timpanist of the Sinfonietta de Lausanne from 1998 to 2008, he has also performed with contemporary, baroque and jazz ensembles, as well as numerous orchestras — including the Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain, the Big Band de Lausanne, the Philharmonische Werkstatt Schweiz and the Psophos 4tet (percussion), for which he composes and arranges.
Nicolas Suter
Born in Lausanne in 1978 into a family of musicians, Nicolas Suter began his musical training with ten years of violin, then, after four years of drums under Jean-Luc Lavanchy and studies in sound engineering, returned to classical music in Stéphane Borel's percussion class. During his professional studies, he explored the many facets of chamber percussion — with the trio Adamas (creative percussion), the duo Superflux (flute and percussion) and the duo Impromptu (harp and marimba) — as well as theatre and dance collaborations, for which he composes or arranges. He completed his percussion studies in 2005 and received a Leenaards Foundation grant the same year.
Tchiki duo
Since its beginnings, Tchiki duo has explored three musical themes — language, emotion, communion — starting from a duality of personalities meant to converge into a single musical identity. This approach has profoundly transformed how the two musicians experience music, at every level: interpretation, stage presence, individual growth through playing as a duo, and shared reflection on music itself. This teamwork has allowed Tchiki duo to grow quickly and widely, continually surprising audiences around the world.
